Summary

Mrs Paula Forteza questions the Secretary of State to the Minister of Solidarity and Health, responsible for children and families, about parental educational leave. This question is asked on behalf of citizen Ophélie Salle, as part of the “citizen questions” initiative in the Government. To date, any employee with at least one year of seniority on the date of birth of their child has the right either to the benefit parental educational leave, during which the employment contract is suspended, or a reduction in working hours (as long as this part-time activity remains greater than or equal to sixteen hours per week). These arrangements end no later than the child's third birthday. However, some parents would like to be able to benefit from it for longer, given school schedules, in order, for example, to be able to to take care of their child on Wednesdays. Also, the MP would like to know if the Government plans to extend the benefit of parental leave or the reduction of working hours on the basis of article L.1225-47 of the labor code; she emphasizes that such a reform would have no impact on public finances, these two measures being uncorrelated from the shared child education benefit (PreParE), paid by CAF for parents who reduce their activity to look after their children.
