Mr. Mathieu Lefèvre questions the Minister to the Minister of Labor, Health, Solidarity and Families, responsible for health and access to care, on the increase in illegal botulinum toxin injections and on the need to better support practitioners in a suitable training course. The National Medicines Agency (ANSM) indicated that it received between August and September 2024 reports of eight serious cases of botulism, neurological disease, caused following injections of botulinum toxin for aesthetic purposes by unqualified people. While the regulations concerning botulinum toxin injections have recently been strengthened, in particular thanks to the law of June 9, 2023 aimed at regulating commercial influence and combating the excesses of influencers, efforts remain to be made. Indeed, despite the controls, it is still possible to book an appointment for an illegal injection in just a few clicks and sometimes even to obtain doses of botulinum toxin to self-inject. Furthermore, the establishment of qualifying training to perform this type of injections constitutes beneficial progress. In place since September 2024, an inter-university diploma (DIU) recognized by the National Council of the Order of Physicians is now available in three French faculties (Bordeaux, Créteil and Marseille). From now on, it will be the only way for future practitioners to practice as an aesthetic doctor. For practitioners already in practice, a validation of acquired experience (VAE) should soon see the light of day. This would allow them to formalize their skills. Nevertheless, in order to secure the practice of aesthetic medicine by all practitioners, it could be appropriate to condition the ability to inject botulinum toxin by practitioners already in practice to this VAE.
