Summary

The recent social movement of prison guards called for a whole set of actions and reflections which gave rise to a statement of conclusions that the UFAP-UNSA, the majority representative union among prison guards, signed. It includes improvement measures which apply immediately. They are mainly divided into four areas which allow better management of radicalized prisoners and violent, strengthen the safety of agents, improve compensation schemes and increase the number of recruitments planned for the coming years. However, resolving the difficulties that the prison world has been facing for years requires structural action. In this sense, aware of this need, the Ministry of Justice has undertaken the essential work which will find its realization through the prison plan desired by the President of the Republic, the justice projects, initiated with the Prime Minister at the month of October 2017 and the programming law for justice which will be presented next spring. The Government's objective is that, by the end of the five-year term, more dignified detention conditions consistent with European commitments will be put in place. All of the issues raised here constitute an important societal issue in which the Minister of Justice is fully invested.
