Summary
Ms. Béatrice Roullaud draws the attention of the Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty to the conditions of killing animals in slaughterhouses. In an investigation made public on May 22, 2025, the L214 association revealed the abominable suffering inflicted on sheep and cattle in a slaughterhouse in Seine-et-Marne - specializing in halal ritual slaughter - and denounced these extremely cruel practices. Following this broadcast, it welcomes the fact that the prefecture of Seine-et-Marne has taken the decision to suspend the activity of this establishment. According to the prefecture, activity will only be able to resume in this slaughterhouse once all employees working in contact with live animals have followed "a new training session in animal protection" and that control of the activity will be noted by the departmental management of the protection of populations. It is also required to install equipment adapted to the size of the animals. In September 2016, the MP had already alerted and questioned the mayor of the local municipality by letter about the effectiveness of the controls carried out in this slaughterhouse, asking him to put this question on the agenda of the municipal council. She had also asked a written question to Mrs. Minister in February 2024, asking him what measures the Government intended to implement so that slaughterhouses are seriously monitored and controlled by veterinary services in order to verify that slaughter operations are carried out in accordance with the regulations in force. On this occasion, she asked him to please confirm that all slaughterhouses indeed employed - as required by law - a manager animal welfare responsible for enforcing animal protection rules within the establishment. In his response, the minister assured him that the conditions of killing in a slaughterhouse were indeed subject to multiple controls. But, clearly, these controls remain insufficient given the appalling revelation of the practices used in this slaughterhouse, as elsewhere in France. She therefore asks him how The Government intends to put an end to such suffering and ensure that the regulations are effectively and seriously applied.
