Summary
The Minister of National Education attaches great importance to the consolidation of the economic culture of high school students as part of the baccalaureate and high school reform. A certain number of measures contribute to this objective; - in general and technological second grade, SES teaching is introduced into the common core of teaching at the rate of one and a half hours per week. Until now chosen only as optional exploration teaching, SES now become compulsory and a constituent part of the common culture of all high school students. - in first and final year classes, the end of the general series aims to limit the effects of too much prioritization between sectors and to allow students to gradually build study profiles that are more relevant to their choice and more adapted to the higher education training, without locking them into irreversible choices. In this context, economic and social sciences can be chosen by students as a specialty course of 4 hours in the first class and 6 hours in the final year. The new organization of teaching in the final cycle must allow diversified choices complementing this pivotal teaching. The association made possible by economic and social sciences with scientific disciplines such as mathematics or disciplines of a "literary" nature thus allows a diversification of courses according to the student's project thanks to the choice of three specialty courses in the first class and two courses of this type in the final year. For example, the economic and social sciences could be supplemented in particular by the choice of specialty teaching “history-geography, geopolitics and political sciences”. In addition, a three-hour “Law and major issues in the contemporary world” (DGEMC) option can be chosen in the final year, which broadens the range of possibilities for students in terms of pursuing higher education. It should also be added that these modifications in the structure of teaching is accompanied by a renovation of program content, for which the Higher Program Council submitted its first recommendations at the beginning of May. As a specialty course, economics and social sciences are assessed in writing by a final one-off test and as part of a final oral test. This oral includes, in addition to a presentation by the student, an exchange with the jury intended to evaluate the students' ability to mobilize the knowledge acquired and to exercise their critical thinking within the framework of personal reflection. Students are thus better prepared for pursuing higher education, the new test making it possible to mobilize skills expected in most first cycle higher education courses. Given the developments described above, the new organization of the baccalaureate and the general and technological high school will strengthen the economic culture of high school students.
