Summary
The government supports the objective of helping women reconcile family and professional life. Today, although all basic social security schemes cover maternity costs, there are however notable differences depending on the social security schemes, both concerning the duration of maternity leave compensation and the form of support. This heterogeneity of rules can be explained by partly by the differentiated needs and constraints of mothers during periods of maternity leave according to their professional status, the systems intended to meet the real needs of the insured without necessarily being identical. A parliamentary mission was entrusted to Ms. Marie-Pierre RIXAIN, Member of Parliament for Essonne, in order to analyze the reasons for these divergences and to determine which ones should be maintained, because they are adapted to the specificities and constraints of each type of professional activity, and which could be alleviated or corrected. With regard to self-employed agricultural workers, the terms of compensation for maternity leave currently take the form of a replacement allowance due to the need for continuity of agricultural operations during the maternity leave period. Improvements were gradually made to the system, terms of care and extension of the duration of rest, although the recourse rate of 60% is not fully satisfactory. This issue is one of the subjects being studied by the parliamentary mission, which will soon release its conclusions.
