Amend the Medicines and Medical Devices Act 2021 so that the Patient Safety Commissioner’s core duties extend beyond medicines and medical devices to promoting patient safety across all NHS-funded healthcare in England.
Patient safety concerns can arise from diagnosis, treatment, communication, clinical records and continuity of care, and can involve several NHS services or organisations.
The Patient Safety Commissioner’s statutory remit is currently focused on medicines and medical devices. We want the Government to review the need for B2 English language requirement for Health and Care Worker visa applicants and allow experienced workers who have already demonstrated effective English communication in UK health and social care roles to be deemed to meet the B1 English requirement.
Many Health and Care Worker visa applicants have already worked in the UK for two or three years before applying for a Skilled Worker visa. They communicate daily in English with patients and colleagues. Major housing developments increase demand on GP practices, hospitals, mental health, community health and ambulance services, yet consultation with NHS organisations is not consistently required before planning decisions are made.

The commissioner should be responsible for reviewing new and existing training in the NHS. There have been bad choices causing clients so many issues both personal and medical.
The whole system needs to be reviewed to help make sure bad choices does not happen ever again. Some clients have been given medication without reviewing side effects or knowing their medication records, and been given booklets to read about their current symptoms which is not in any way any help what so ever. Around 1 in 10 women have endometriosis. Average diagnosis is 7-8 years that’s before treatment to relieve symptoms. There is no cure only management. It can affect fertility. It’s an invasive condition that returns. It can affect multiple organs including the bladder, bowel and even the lungs. Surgery waitlists are between 12-24 months once you get on them which takes years in itself. The pain doesn’t wait, this fast spreading condition just pushes on.

Suicide is the biggest killer of young people, and is on the rise across the UK. Between 2012-2022, 73% of people who died by suicide were not mental health service patients, and we believe that stigma often stops people seeking help. A public health campaign could engage with suicide prevention charities and:
• Normalise conversations about suicide
• Increase public confidence in talking about suicidal thoughts
• Encourage early help-seeking
• Reduce shame and fear associated with suicidal feelings

We want a review of what support GPs and sexual health clinics provide regarding the unwanted effects of birth control. There should be more investigation into what is causing said symptoms, and more support and care for these symptoms, such as medication or switching to a different method.
