Summary

Medicare Wage Index Equity Act of 1988 - Amends title XVIII (Medicare) of the Social Security Act to require that in determining the proportion of hospital costs attributable to wages and wage-related costs the Secretary of Health and Human Services: (1) take into account the different mixes of occupations among different areas; and (2) in determining rural hospital costs, consider wage costs for skilled personnel on a statewide rather than strictly rural basis.
