Summary

National Maritime Museum Act of 1987 - Establishes the National Maritime Museum in San Francisco, California, as a unit of the National Park System. Transfers vessels and maritime artifacts to such museum from the Golden Gate National Recreation Area whose boundaries are revised to exclude the museum. Names the museum building the Sala Burton Building. Authorizes the Secretary of the Interior to acquire lands within the boundaries of the museum and administer such lands as part of the National Park System. Permits the Secretary to lease museum property, including vessels, with rental receipts used for maintenance. Authorizes the Secretary to charge entrance fees to museum facilities and ships. Directs the Secretary to report within two years to the appropriate congressional committees a management plan for the museum, including a list of desirable vessels. Requires the appointment of a chief curator. Authorizes the Secretary to acquire other vessels or dispose of vessels after notifying specified congressional committees. Establishes the Advisory Commission of the National Maritime Museum to assist the Secretary. Terminates such Commission after ten years. Authorizes appropriations.
