Summary
Mr. Xavier Breton draws the attention of the Minister of State, Minister of the Interior, to the increase in attacks on firefighters during interventions. The numbers are worrying. In 2016, 2,280 firefighters declared having been victims of an attack during an intervention, an increase of 17.6% compared to 2015. These attacks gave rise to 1,613 days of work stoppage, which constitutes a an increase of 36% compared to 2015. In the same year, 414 vehicles were damaged for damage estimated at 283,442 euros, which brings the increase to 183.4%! This phenomenon is all the more worrying as, at the same time, the number of complaints filed by firefighters is decreasing: lack of confidence in the justice system to find and punish the guilty, fear of reprisals, pressure from the administration. The consequences of these attacks are first and foremost human. These are traumas with fears of returning to the field, particularly in so-called “sensitive” areas. These attacks contribute to a form of weariness and demotivation due to their recurrence and their almost banality. This violence is unbearable as these men come to help. Also, he asks what is planned to ensure better protection of firefighters face such risks.
