Mrs Nadine Lechon questions the Minister of the Interior on the subject of replacing the wheeled armored vehicles of the gendarmerie (VBRG) within the national gendarmerie. In 2021, it was agreed that the VBRG should be gradually replaced by the gendarmerie multi-purpose intervention vehicle (VIPG), also nicknamed “CENTAUR”. Although this replacement is welcome, several factors nevertheless intrigued the MP. In firstly, this replacement is partial. 180 VBRG are in service within the national gendarmerie and around 90 VIPG must replace them. This replacement is being carried out in stages until 2025. As the balance is absent, the Government had indicated that several vehicles from the armored front (VAB) of the Army could complete these replacements. In addition, the idea would have been put forward from top to bottom part of the VBRG in order to keep them in service. Secondly, certain members of the gendarmerie were able to share their fears about the deployment of the VIPG. In fact, they believe that this vehicle would be too heavy, difficult to maneuver and would not be able to adequately meet all the requirements of the gendarmerie. It would also be less modular than the VBRG. Finally, the MP wonders about the distribution of the deployment of the VIPG on the national territory and would therefore like more information on the subject. The MP would therefore like to have more information concerning the replacement of the VBRG as well as the characteristics and deployment of its successor.
