Summary

France is attentive to respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms throughout the world, in particular to respect for freedom of opinion and expression, as set out in Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. France maintains regular and close dialogue with the Algerian authorities at all levels, in Paris and in Algiers. In full respect of the sovereignty of Algeria, it addresses, in particular, respect for fundamental freedoms.
