The State acts with determination against the structures and people involved in actions relating to separatism, particularly in the field of political Islamism. Since 2017, this action aimed at ensuring respect for the principles of the Republic has notably resulted in the closure of places of worship, the dissolution of associations or de facto groups (e.g.: the Collective against Islamophobia in France in 2020 and the European Institute of Human Sciences in 2025), expulsions (e.g.: the preacher Hassan Iquioussen in 2022), administrative bans from the territory, administrative suspensions of endowment funds and measures to freeze funds and economic resources. With this in mind, the Government has made public a report entitled “Muslim Brothers and political Islamism in France”. He further specifies that if the Brothers Muslims have official branches in certain Muslim countries, they have no legal representation in France and more broadly within European countries, which undermines their de facto ban.  This report provides a better understanding of the characteristics, implementation strategies and modes of action of political Islamism. It constitutes a reference tool for State services, local authorities and actors in the field in order to better prevent ideological deviations contrary to republican principles. Following its publication, an interministerial national strategy was adopted by the Defense Council on July 7, 2025 in order to better anticipate this threat and strengthen the means of action of the public authorities. It reflects the Government's determination to fight against any form of religious entryism or separatism.
