   Le phénomène des violences intrafamiliales (VIF) est particulièrement prégnant en Nouvelle-Calédonie. La création d'une brigade de protection des familles (BPF) fait ainsi partie des mesures prises par le commandement de la gendarmerie (COMGEND) pour la Nouvelle Calédonie afin de lutter contre ce fléau. Cette structure sera dédiée au soutien des unités dans la prise en compte des VIF, au développement de partenariats utiles et à l'accompagnement des victimes et de leurs proches. Unité exclusivement fonctionnelle, elle s'appuie sur un réseau composé d'un officier référent situé au COMGEND, de 29 référents VIF des brigades territoriales (1 par unité), des brigades de prévention de la délinquance juvénile (BPDJ) et des intervenants sociaux gendarmerie (ISG). Dans ce cadre, la création de la BPF passe préalablement par le recrutement de deux ISG, idéalement en province Nord et en province Sud. Le dispositif général sera alors prochainement opérant et pourra s'appuyer sur la nouvelle BPDJ de Koné créée le 1er juillet 2018. À ce titre, des démarches sont actuellement entreprises par le COMGEND auprès des deux provinces dans la perspective du recrutement des deux ISG, dont les compétences seront déterminantes pour la performance optimale de cette organisation.
