Review the DVLA (Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency), including digitalisation

United Kingdom · UK Parliament · 6 June 2025

Review the DVLA and its treatment of customers from disadvantaged groups. Review how the DVLA could be modernised to ensure it delivers an efficient, fair service that is fit for 2025, saving costs along the way. We think their systems & processes can result in terrible customer service and in needless delays. We feel communication can be inconsistent, wrong, frustrating & antagonising. We think some customers are severely inconvenienced and there is a cost to taxpayers in unnecessary admin, not forgetting lost income due to delays in issuing licenses. We think a digital-first approach could improve service and reduce costs significantly.

Require social platforms let users change algorithms after baby loss/miscarriage

United Kingdom · UK Parliament · 13 January 2025

I lost my baby at 21 weeks pregnant. I left the hospital without my baby after enduring a traumatic premature labour. What made it worse was the insensitive targeting I received due to the social media algorithms, which bombarded me with pregnancy, baby, maternity, and IVF advertisements. We want the government to hold social media companies accountable and require them to allow users to alter their preferences regarding pregnancy, miscarriage, or fertility. Seeing IVF advertisements or baby clothing after losing a baby is indescribable and horrific. We think that something must be done to address this.

GOOGLE ALGORITHMS CHANGES AND LOSS TO BUSINESS

United Kingdom · UK Parliament · 10 December 2013

That this House calls on search engine giant Google to be mindful of supporting small to medium business and reset their algorithms in such a way that small and medium-sized businesses who pay their taxes are not disadvantaged against large multi-national foot loose companies; and notes that some small businesses recently reported that changes by Google to algorithms have cut 30 per cent of internet hits and traffic to their sites, hitting sales and profits and potentially losing the Exchequer millions, if not more, in lost tax revenues and undermining jobs in the real economy.
