Question 1182 — identity papers

France · National Assembly

Ms. Isabelle Muller-Quoy questions the Minister of State, Minister of the Interior, about expired identity cards not now accepted in certain countries of the European Union, after she was questioned about it. Fellow citizens are faced with an unnecessarily complex and disarming administrative situation. For many, they learn of these regulations and the ban imposed by certain neighboring countries at the last moment. On the official sites, they are advised to bring a passport, but the establishment of such a document presents an additional cost whereas a simple identity card was sufficient until now. Above all, to obtain the renewal of the card which is still valid in France, they must make a declaration of fictitious loss. What is the basis for the extension of validity? Could we not harmonize the rules for accepting expired cards in the European Union? It appears necessary to reconsider this regulation in order to put an end to this grotesque situation. She asks him his position on this issue.
